Hi there! I’m Bianca, and for the past 2.5 years, I’ve been shaping global experiences that define Miro’s internal culture. While a lot has evolved during my time here, nothing compares to the transformation brought by our journey into AI. As part of our vision to empower innovation and creativity, we’ve been helping Mironeers integrate AI into their daily work. Recently, we took a big step forward by hosting our very first internal AI conference. This milestone marks an exciting new chapter for us. And today, I’m thrilled to share all the details about this incredible event and its impact on our team and future.
Why a Miro AI conference?
We wanted to provide Mironeers the opportunity to explore all things AI — producing an assortment of sessions around learning, exploring, and gaining a deeper understanding of what AI means for our employees while also having some fun!
Our “launch fast and iterate” mindset drove the decision to create a space where everyone — from AI experts to beginners — could dive in.
The goal was simple: offer something for everyone, whether that meant technical deep dives or beginner-friendly sessions to spark curiosity and excitement.
Conference structure
The conference was entirely virtual, allowing employees from all 12 of our globally distributed hubs to have equal access and participation. We even hosted a special JAPAC session to accommodate our team members in that region. Spanning three days, the event featured 10 sessions covering a broad range of topics, ensuring there was something to pique the interest of every employee.
Each session lasted 45 minutes, with 30 minutes of content followed by an insightful 15-minute Q&A segment. We found the Q&A segments to be super insightful as employees always had interesting questions which led the conversation in directions we weren’t initially expecting.
All recordings were uploaded and shared a couple hours after the session so people could catch up on sessions they missed or share exciting sessions with their teams and colleagues.
The content
We brought in speakers from Miro and external partners like AWS, HubSpot, Asana, and Glean.
From building AI-powered features in Miro to exploring productivity hacks, every session showcased the possibilities AI brings to work and beyond. Our internal speakers came from a wide range of backgrounds and departments at Miro, from Mark Strande (CISO), to Shlomit Gruman-Navot (Head of People) and Ayala Ohyon (Engineering Manager, Data Science) to Tony Beltramelli (Head of AI Platform, formally Uizard CEO and co-founder) and more!
One of the standout sessions was Tony’s talk, ‘Why AI is Critical for Miro,’ where he explored how AI is transforming the way we interact with technology. He emphasized why Miro’s canvas is the perfect paradigm for AI to enhance human creativity and how AI is crucial for positioning Miro as a catalyst for innovation.
Alongside the conference, we hosted a “Promptathon”, encouraging Mironeers to get creative with prompts through a simple 3-step process: create a prompt, submit it to our AI Prompt Library, and share it for upvotes. This interactive event fostered collaboration, innovative problem-solving, and exploration of AI’s potential.
AI Conference wrap up
How did it go?
We had 1,242 registrations and around a third of the company attended — impressive for an optional virtual event!
The event sparked a strong sense of curiosity and eagerness to learn, not just about AI in general, but also about its role in driving our company’s success.
Participants praised the high quality and variety of the sessions, along with the unique conversations they sparked. Many also appreciated giving our internal speakers a platform to showcase their work to a wider audience.
What I learned
As I attended all 10 sessions, I learned A LOT about AI — mainly around how to engage it, to approach all AI capabilities with a sense of exploration and experimentation. There truly are endless possibilities as we begin to uncover and understand how to work with this tool best. As you get started, simply understanding how to craft a top-of-the-line prompt is a game changer, on the flip side it is a neverending conversation piece around security, safety, and what it can mean for our future.
What’s next?
When it comes to AI, we are just getting started. Miro is at the forefront of AI transformation, and we want to help our employees succeed by providing them with resources and tools to learn and experiment with AI. We have just started planning our next hackathon, which will have AI as the epicenter of discoveries, projects, and fun! This event will offer a dynamic environment for hands-on learning and innovation, ensuring that all participants, from AI experts to beginners, can dive into the world of AI and explore its endless possibilities.
